Influence of discharge gap on material removal and melt pool movement in EDM discharge process

In electrical discharge machining (EDM), gap control is the key to stable processing; plays a significant role in EDM. To determine influence of on material removal and melt pool movement, which are two fundamental issues EDM, high-speed photography molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were used study process. Research results demonstrate that has during A smaller width produces more larger removed materials. The mechanism explained as follows. plasma with diameter greater heat flux. Discharge flux generates addition, produce stronger interaction metal vapor jets, generating shear force acting pool. also influences movement final topography crater through external pressure Smaller pool, bowl-shaped depression center bulge around edge. less flat swelling
